Trend Watch

The Yahoo main page just announced some beauty trends that we have to give up in winter, including hot pink lipstick and floral hair clips. Now, I don't like to be told what to do, but just because we are rockabilly, doesn't mean that we are oblivious to current trends and seasons. I just like to think that we are ABOVE the trends. However, I do agree that hot pink lipstick and hair flowers are not appropriate winter garb. So, what is a doll to do with out her favorite shade of Exotic Pink by Besame, and her favorite hair clips? Well, wear red lipstick of course! That's a no brainer, even for a blonde. For the hair flowers, I think poinsettias are appropriate flowers for Christmastime, if you just can't let it go. Also, remember last springs trend- bows? Well, they never go out of season!

Say fairwell to the hot pink lips and hair flowers until next spring! Ditto for shorts and sun dresses, but you knew that!

What I did this long weekend..

I did more than eat during this Thanksgiving weekend....really, I did!

We took down all of the harvest decorations, and put up the Christmas decorations and lights. While Zack was putting up the lights, he noticed that the gutters were full, so he cleaned them out. What a good boy he is!

I also finished the kitchen curtains, and Zack hung them up.

Pink atomic valance

Valance and cafe curtains in the kitchen.

I also added a valance to the laundry room window. The cat likes it.

And last but not least, I started a painting. Did I ever tell you that I paint? Well, I used to, and I am pretty good at it. When I am done I will show you.

Karling's Rockabilly Review

Every Wednesday Karling Abbeygate hosts a Rockabilly Review. She has some of southern California's best rockabilly acts, and her band is always the opening act. We have really been wanting to go, but its very far for us to go on a Wednesday night.

Luckily, I had the day off, and the rest of the week off. Most of that afternoon was spent at the dentist, where I was replacing a filling that had fallen out. It was not fun, and I was in a lot of pain once the numbness wore off. But, I didn't want to let that stop me from going to this show.

The event takes place at Big's Bar and Grill in Fullerton. Due to the holiday traffic, the trip took us two and a half hours. The bar was a fair size, but the dance floor was covered in tables and chairs, making it basically unusable for more than one or two couples at a time. They had food, but it was nothing special. The drink specials were good, with 24oz PBRs for $3.

This week she had Big Sandy's Holiday Jam, including performances by Amber Foxx, The Vaquetones, Captain Jeffrey, Ernie Vargas of the Vargas Bros, Marquis of the Barrel House Boys, Derick Dupree, and more! This was a lot of music packed into one Wednesday night! There was a really good size crowd, and everyone was in good spirits.

Dave Stuckey's Gut Bucket 5!

On Monday night we headed to Burbank to see Dave Stuckey's Gut Bucket 5 at Joe's Great American Bar and Grill. This lineup doesn't play too often (because the members are in so many different bands), so this was the first time I have seen them. This was an all-star line-up, with Dave Stuckey, Jeremy Wakefield, Wally Hersom....and more! They did two, maybe three sets, with a ton of great dancing tunes. It was a very fun Monday night!

Dancers!

Sara, me and Dean!

This is the outfit I wore. It is the first dress Zack ever bought me, for Christmas of '05. I never wore it because it never fit until now. It says its a large, but it fits like a small! I am so happy that I can wear it now!

Lincoln Fabrics

Today we went to Lincoln Fabrics in Venice. They have been in business forever, so they have a ton of stock, including old and discontinued fabrics. Some of the prices were low, some were fair, and some were high. We ended up spending $160, but got a lot of stuff. We were just happy to be able to find everything we wanted in one place. We got tiki barkcloth for the living room windows, atomic guitar barkcloth for pillows, pink atomic barkcloth for the kitchen windows, a mid-mod novelty print cotton for curtains in the laundry room, and a cute little atomic cotton fabric for the backdoor valance. I have soooo many curtains to make. I cant wait to get started!

We also went to Linoleum City in Hollywood to buy VCT tiles for the bathroom remodel. Here is a sneak peak of what we are planning:

More Mail!

So, I very rarely post about stuff I buy, because I don't want to seem materialistic or "show-off-ish", but these are gifts, so they don't count! I got another package from Stacie!

It was from Bree's Vintage Revival on Etsy, and was wrapped beautifully!

There were these cute earrings, key chain....

and bracelet! All in pink! Would you believe that this is my only pink bangle? I had a carved one that I dropped and it broke. :( So I am sooooo thankful for this!!!! Thanks again to Stacie!

Monday Night with The SideWynders!

On Monday night we went to Joe's Great American Bar and Grill to see our good friends and awesome band, The SideWynders! Joe's is the place to be on a Monday night! There was drinking, dancing and great friends. The SideWynders did 3 sets, including lots of western swing, hillbilly jazz and rockabilly. Did I mention that entrance and parking was free? If that won't get you out on a Monday night, nothing will!

The SideWynders, with guest stars Captain Jeff and Carlitos!

DJ Lorenzo.....spinning the best dancing tunes!

Dancing!

Wish you were there!

Last Friday With The Lucky Stars!

Last Friday we went to see the Lucky Stars at Weber's Rockabilly Friday Nights. To my surprise, the opening band was Roy Rapid and The Rhythm Rock Trio from San Diego. We saw them at The Rhythm Rocker Weekend and they were really good. I was glad to see Karen bring them to our neck of the woods.

Roy Rapid and The Rhythm Rock Trio

As, always, The Lucky Stars were amazing, and played a ton of dancing tunes. Sadly, my camera died early into the night, so I didn't get any pictures of The Lucky Stars playing, but a got a few random pictures:

Me, Sage and Karen

With Ray Campi.

Swingin!

I wore a vintage seafoam sweater and a vintage grey skirt that I got at Rhythm Rocker.
Also, my bosoms are out of control!
